It’s Almost Sea Turtle Nesting Season: Let’s Trot!
One of my favorite times of the year happens every May when we celebrate the beginning of our Tybee Sea Turtles nesting season!
To kick off the season, the 8th Annual Turtle Trot will be held on Saturday, April 28th. This 5K Tybee Beach Run is a fund raiser for the Tybee Island Sea Turtle Project and it also helps support Coastal Georgia’s nesting season.
Loggerhead Sea Turtles nest on our beach from May to October. After the females lay their eggs, they head back into the ocean. In about 60 days, the eggs hatch and the babies make their way out into the sea under the watchful eyes of our wonderful Sea Turtle Project volunteers.
After the race, the GEORGIA SEA TURTLE CENTER is releasing a Loggerhead Sea Turtle patient back to the ocean! You’ll also have a chance to meet their mascot Scute and learn all about sea turtles at the GSTC’s Education Station located in front of the Tybee Island Marine Science Center.
This is one of the events that makes Tybee Island such a wonderful place. I hope to see you here this season, so be sure to give me a call and I’ll help you choose just the right vacation rental for you.
