This month started on a wonderful note when I was invited to a book signing for Mary Kay Andrews‘ newest book Spring Fever. This is a photo of Joy and Mary Kay (Kathy).  Admittedly  I’m neither an avid reader nor into the summer beach read but this definitely is the beach read for Tybee Island this summer.  Kathy is a local celebrity.  This party was held at Dutton Waller Cottage for 50 invited guests.

Joy and I started working together in early June.  She is our leader here at Tybee Joy.  It has been an adventure for me to say the least.  It has expanded my skill set to include providing guest services to her fully booked 28 rental cottages.  I’m looking forward to continuing to expand on our relationship going forward.

Tybee Arts Association Show and Sale

May 04 2012 Tybee Arts Association Show and Sale Paintings, Prints, Glass Art, Photography, Sculpture, Jewelry, Fiber Art, Mosaics, Art Quilts and Note cards Art Demonstrations, Music and Door Prizes.  Hours are: Friday Opening Reception 6-9 p.m. Saturday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Most shows will be held at Tybee Arts Association Building, 7 Cedarwood Dr. More details and any changes to hours or location will be posted on website at www.tybeearts.org

SCAD Sand Art Festival

May 04 2012 This annual festival features competitions using sand and objects found on the beach, including shells and seaweed, as art. Categories include: sand castle design, sand sculptures, sand relief and wind sculpture.  Location: North Beach, Tybee Island. Admission: Free and open to the public. www.scad.edu

Paint Tybee Pink

May 05 2012 Come enjoy an afternoon into evening 10K walk in the beautiful city of Tybee Island Georgia (5k option available as well).  There will be a Sunset Ceremony at Fisherman’s Walk pier, then each walker will receive a pink glow stick and will travel the last mile along the beach (optional). The finish will be at the Tybee Pier and Pavilion with a Celebration of Life Party complete with TropRock artist Jim Asbell playing on the Pier! $50 registration fee with no fund raising minimum or anyone who raises at least $500 will get their registration fee waived!! Fund raising is the lifeblood of any charitable organization, so fund raising and sponsorships are strongly encouraged so we might make a bigger impact on the cancer community in Coastal Georgia! Crew members are also needed to come out and help our walkers along their journey, so if you can’t walk, please consider Crewing…either way, it will be an experience you will not soon forget!  Proceeds to benefit LibLines Breast Cancer Fund at the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute of Memorial University Hospital, Savannah, GA.

The Tybee Island Kite Flying Festival

May 6, 2012  11 a.m.-2 p.m.  North Beach area and in front of the Tybee Lighthouse Museum.  Come fly a kite and help raise awareness and learn about Parkinson’s & other Movement Disorders.

And, don’t forget the Savannah Tall Ships are here.  You can see them parade past Tybee Island, too!  Come spend some time in my flip-flops.  I’ll show you how to really enjoy the beach!

This Spanish Hammock retreat has two living levels housing 4 Bedrooms and 3 1/2 Baths.  Contemporary furnishings and spacious rooms provide a perfect private escape just a 5 minute drive to the Tybee beach, yet directly on the river, with all the comforts of home and more.
The Main Floor has a huge Living Room with floor to ceiling windows, Brazilian Cherry floors, Fireplace and TV, Powder room, Dining Room, and Kitchen with Granite & Stainless Appliances. The King Master Bedroom has floor to ceiling windows with beautiful views of the pool and river.  Down the hall is a fantastic closet with built ins and then you walk into a dream bathroom.  Step up to the huge whirlpool tub, sit back and relax with a beautiful view of the river.  There is a glass shower, double vanity and stool.  There is also a stacking washer and dryer in a closet in the master bathroom.
Upstairs are 2 bedrooms and a loft room.  The first bedroom has a queen bed and private full bathroom.  The second bedroom has a queen size bed and shares a full bathroom in the hall with the loft bedroom.  The loft bedroom has a bunk bed and 2 futon/bed sofas.  There is a sliding door that can be closed for privacy and a window with a door that can be closed.
A fabulous large waterfront screened porch allows lots of room for outdoor entertaining.  A hot/cold shower and private half bathroom is downstairs next to the pool.  There is a boardwalk to the deep water dock where there is a seating area. The Dock provides a drive on Boat Slip for your boat (local Marina’s have boats for rent). Great crabbing and fishing can be done directly from the dock, and we have all the cooking utensils to “cook what you catch”!
If you are looking for a luxurious Waterfront Retreat that’s only minutes to the beaches at Tybee with all the comforts of home and more, this is it.  You’ll never want to leave!  Come on down and spend some time in my flip-flops.  I’ll be waiting.

This home is located within walking distance of Tybee’s lovely beach, several restaurants and other Tybee attractions.   After a day at the beach, you can relax outside under the umbrella on the deck or swing in the glider under the palm trees of this charming two bedroom, two bath ground level cottage.

Our cottage is fully furnished and offers all the comforts of home! You can enjoy a family game night in the sun-room or simply relax with a good book.

Just outdoors in the private, fenced-in yard you can use our gas grill and enjoy Tybee’s wonderful weather while dining on the deck or concrete picnic table. Tybee Palms has two satellite TV’s, a DVD player and a washer and dryer for your convenience.  Although there is not a phone or WIFI connection at the cottage, both are available nearby.

Get away from it all at Tybee Palms where you can enjoy the perfect getaway for two couples, a couple with children, or a romantic hideaway for two!  Now, how soon can I expect you to get here!

Tybee Island and Savannah are always wonderful to visit all year round, but soon there will be even more sights to see!

The 2012 Savannah Tall Ships Challenge® is coming May 3-7, 2012.   Savannah will welcome some of the most majestic Tall Ships the world has to offer and you can be here to view and board your favorite Tall Ship.  Just imagine the sights you’ll see as the tall ships round Tybee Island on their way into Savannah.

The Tall Ships Challenge® is an annual event organized by Tall Ships America, alternating in a three-year cycle between the Great Lakes, the Pacific and the Atlantic coasts of North America. The event will be an ideal opportunity for you to witness beautiful Tall Ships from the age of sail and you’ll even be able watch the participants interact with the crews of different vessels in friendly rivalry as they  sail by our island.

There will be plenty of scheduled events in Savannah to enjoy, but you can be among the first to see the tall ships as they come in from the open seas.  I still have a few wonderful beach houses and condos, but you’ll want to make your reservations very soon.

It’s that time of year again…..St Patrick’s Day!  I know you are probably saying “What’s the big deal with St Patrick’s Day”, right?   Well…..it is really big here in Savannah and  Tybee Island has its own smaller parade the week before.  There is expected 1 million visitors this Saturday for the huge parade in downtown Savannah.   I always love to go to the parade and hang out with my friends.  We usually start the day very early getting downtown and finding a parking spot.  Then off to breakfast in all of our finery of feathers, beads, sparkles and of course it is all green.   The beautiful squares in downtown Savannah are full of families with all their food, drinks, chairs and goodies ready to watch the floats, bands, Clydesdale horses, Shriners and much more go by.  After the parade starts, I walk around visiting everyone and just enjoying the parade and friends.   This is such a fantastic time.  Don’t miss it!
